USA: Facebook is now used by only a third of teens
In the United States, it is reported that entertainment platforms like Youtube and TikTok are hugely popular and overshadow social platforms.
YouTube and TikTok are the most used entertainment platforms by American teens in 2022 (excluding video games), while Facebook’s popularity among young people has plummeted in a few years, according to a Pew Research Center study released on Wednesday.
The share of Americans aged 13-17 who visit Facebook dropped from 71% in 2015 to 32% in 2022, according to the research center.
TikTok, on the other hand, is used “sometimes” by 67% of teens in the United States, and “almost constantly” by 16%.
The Chinese group ByteDance’s mobile app didn’t launch internationally until 2017, but its short, compelling videos, sorted according to people’s tastes using powerful algorithms, are enjoying phenomenal success, amplified by confinement during the Coronavirus pandemic.
