The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) holds an emergency meeting following the repeated burning of the Quran
The OIC announced that it will convene an emergency meeting on the coming Monday to discuss the recurring incidents of desecration and burning of copies of the Holy Quran in Sweden and Denmark, according to a statement released on its website today, Friday.
The organization stated that the meeting, requested by Saudi Arabia, the Chairman of the 14th Islamic Summit, and Iraq, will be held virtually for the foreign ministers of member countries.
This meeting comes in implementation of the conclusions reached in the final statement issued by an exceptional meeting of the Executive Committee of the OIC, held at the General Secretariat’s headquarters in Jeddah on July 2nd, regarding the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran in Sweden. The statement called for an emergency high-level meeting when necessary.
The upcoming meeting is part of consultations led by the Secretary-General of the organization, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, to consider taking further measures in response to the repetition of such provocative acts, which represent deliberate religious hatred and bias.
In a related context, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the acting head of the Danish embassy in the Kingdom today, Friday, where a protest note was delivered regarding the actions of an extremist group in Denmark, who burned a copy of the Holy Quran and raised hate-filled and racist slogans against Islam.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry, in its statement conveyed by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), demanded an immediate halt to these abhorrent actions, which contradict all religious teachings, international laws, and norms.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry emphasized the Kingdom’s unequivocal rejection of all these acts that fuel hatred among religions.
