El-Sisi meets Erdogan at the G20 summit… What did the first meeting between the presidents discuss?
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Egyptian President Abdul Fattah el-Sisi in the Indian capital, New Delhi, on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
Erdogan‘s office said in a statement published by Anadolu Agency: The presidents discussed bilateral relations and cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries, as well as regional and global issues.
Meanwhile, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmi, said in a statement posted on his Facebook page today: The presidents emphasized the importance of working to advance the relationship between the two countries and building on tangible progress towards resuming various mechanisms of bilateral cooperation.
They also expressed their keenness to enhance regional cooperation as a solid strategic approach, within the framework of mutual respect, common interests, and sincere intentions, contributing to the preservation of security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
The official spokesperson added that the meeting addressed the exchange of views on developments in the region of common interest, as well as ways to intensify consultations and coordination between the two countries to enhance all aspects of bilateral relations, in the interest of both states and peoples.
According to CNN, the meeting was attended by foreign ministers, intelligence officials from both countries, and a number of government officials.
Egypt and Turkey had held several official rounds of talks to normalize their relations after years of tension. Last year, Presidents el-Sisi and Erdogan met on the sidelines of the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.”
