Yemeni Brotherhood rebel against the Presidential Council… Details
The prominent leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Amin Alakimi, who defied the decision of the Presidential Council to dismiss him from his position as the governor of Al-Jawf, ignited a wave of anger in the Yemeni streets. Many Yemenis perceived this act as part of the group’s plans to weaken the legitimacy and serve as a free service to the Houthi militias.
The local authorities in Al-Khalq Directorate of Al-Jawf Governorate reaffirmed their commitment to the Presidential Leadership Council and its decisions led by Council President Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, emphasizing their unwavering support for the governance of the province, represented by Major General Hussein Al-Awadi as the governor.
In response to the actions of the Muslim Brotherhood group, which included a recent rally organized by former governor Amin Alakimi on Thursday, October 12th, the local authorities strongly condemned any acts that serve the Houthi rebel militias. They stressed that any rebellion against the decisions of the Presidential Council represents a rebellion against the republic and a violation of the law, according to the Al-Amanat Net website.
Two days ago, Alakimi returned to Marib, declaring his insistence on remaining in his position as the governor of Al-Jawf and refusing to recognize the decisions of the Presidential Leadership Council. In a recorded video, Alakimi described the Presidential Council led by Rashad Al-Alimi as the “coup council,” amidst a tribal gathering of his supporters. He reaffirmed his position as the governor of Al-Jawf, stating that the people of the province should choose their governor themselves.
The former governor of Al-Jawf, a member of the Islamist Reform Party, the Muslim Brotherhood, had previously declared his rebellion against the Presidential Leadership Council and its president, Rashad Al-Alimi. Last year, Alakimi was removed from his position as governor of Al-Jawf and replaced by Major General Hussein Al-Awadi, a decision rejected by Alakimi and the Muslim Brotherhood group and its authorities in Marib.
Alakimi, along with military leaders affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, is accused of being responsible for the complete fall of Al-Jawf province into the hands of the Houthi terrorist militias in 2020 without any combat.
Alakimi is a influential tribal leader in Al-Jawf province and a member of the parliamentary bloc of the Muslim Brotherhood‘s Reform Party. He has held various military positions.
During his tenure as the governor of Al-Jawf, he used his position to hand over extensive areas to the Houthis, ultimately leading to the province’s complete takeover in 2020.
While in these positions, he was repeatedly accused by military leaders in the Yemeni army of betraying the army by reaching agreements with the Houthis and setting up ambushes to hinder the army’s progress against Houthi militias.
Alakimi is involved in embezzling over 80 million dollars, which were allocated to liberate Al-Jawf province from the grip of the militias.
