Yemen’s Floods Separate Two Brothers After a “Failed Attempt”

Torrential floods that hit various regions in Yemen on Tuesday separated two brothers from Ibb province, under Houthi militia control, after they made a “failed attempt” that resulted in the death of one of them.

The floods in “Wadi Jannat” in the “Sahool” area, central Ibb, on Tuesday, blocked the return path for two brothers from the “Dhi al-Sufal” district, in the southern part of the province, who were riding a motorcycle after visiting relatives in the “Al-Mukhaddar” district.

The sources mentioned that the brothers ignored the warnings of those present and decided to risk their lives by crossing the floodwaters with their motorcycle, which led to their immediate fall and being swept away by the current.

According to the sources, one of the brothers got caught in a tree after being swept away for several meters, prompting the nearby citizens to rescue him, while his brother disappeared before his body was found hours later in a deep area of the valley.

Yemen has been experiencing heavy rains for several weeks, leading to floods of varying severity in several provinces, causing the deaths of 57 people, along with dozens of missing and injured individuals, as well as damage affecting over 34,000 families in the provinces of Hodeidah, Hajjah, Taiz, and Marib.
