The United States has launched new strikes against Houthi militias in Yemen.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in a statement that the United States carried out precision strikes last Wednesday on five underground weapons storage sites in Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.

He added that U.S. forces targeted several underground Houthi facilities housing various types of weapon components used by the Houthis to attack civilian and military vessels across the region.

Austin clarified that the U.S. strikes were carried out by B-2 stealth strategic bombers.

The U.S. Central Command commented on the strikes in Yemen, stating that “assessments are ongoing, and there are no reports of civilian casualties.”

The attack comes after the U.S. military earlier this month conducted 15 strikes on targets linked to the Iran-aligned Houthis in Yemen, with residents reporting explosions at military sites and an airport.

The Houthis have carried out nearly 100 attacks on ships crossing the Red Sea since last November, claiming that these actions were in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza war, impacting around 12% of global trade.

Since last January, U.S. and British forces have been conducting strikes as part of a military coalition aimed at curbing Houthi capabilities and reducing their attacks on international shipping routes passing through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
