“Fatty Meats” in the Spotlight: The Most Harmful Foods for the Liver
A study conducted by researchers from the University of Oxford revealed that foods rich in saturated fats, such as fatty meats, butter, and biscuits, cause significant damage to the liver and also raise cholesterol levels in the body.
According to the British Medical Journal (BMJ), excess cholesterol is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular diseases. It leads to blood vessel blockages and clot formation, increasing blood pressure.
Researchers asked a group of volunteers to follow a diet high in saturated fats, including foods like meat and biscuits. After three weeks, they observed an increase in cholesterol levels among participants, along with signs of fatty liver disease, which can lead to severe vascular health issues.
Interestingly, participants’ weight did not change, indicating that fatty liver disease can also affect individuals of normal weight.
On the other hand, a control group that consumed foods rich in polyunsaturated fats, such as fish and avocados, showed significant improvement in cholesterol levels and liver health.
Experts, therefore, recommend reducing the intake of saturated fats to maintain liver health and avoid cholesterol-related issues. They also advise incorporating healthy foods, such as fish and avocados, into the diet.
