What is happening inside the Brotherhood prisons in Taiz?

The city of Taiz, Yemen, is witnessing assaults, violations, and eliminations inside prisons controlled by the Al-Islah party, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen.

According to the newspaper Al-Amana Net, twenty detainees in a prison affiliated with the Brotherhood‘s Taiz axis began a hunger strike last Monday inside the military intelligence cell. They are protesting their unjust detention by this cell, along with torture and mistreatment.

Military sources reported that the screams of several prisoners were audible to residents of the neighborhood adjacent to the intelligence prison following acts of violence against them.

Leaked information from sources revealed that the twenty detainees on hunger strike are appealing to the Attorney General to launch an investigation into the reasons for their detention and the abuse, violence, and mistreatment they have suffered.

Additionally, the newspaper shared numerous accounts of a prisoner accused of drug-related charges who was found hanged inside his cell at the Assifra police station in Taiz. This incident, surrounded by mystery and the tools involved, has raised significant doubts about the suicide narrative. Activists regard it as a deliberate elimination.

Activists suspect that this elimination was intended to cover up links to an influential drug trafficking network in Taiz, which includes prominent figures believed to be connected to armed factions affiliated with the Al-Islah party (Muslim Brotherhood).

They argue that the goal of this crime was to erase evidence and prevent the prisoner from revealing names or details about this network.

Activists and human rights organizations have called for a thorough and transparent investigation to identify those involved and ensure justice. They also urged the security authorities to take responsibility for the worsening violations and the absence of law enforcement in Taiz.

The city of Taiz, controlled by armed factions affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, suffers from rising organized crime, including drug trafficking, amid accusations of prominent figures being involved in these criminal activities.
