“Borno Attack” in Nigeria: A Bloody Confrontation and Heavy Losses for Boko Haram

A bloody confrontation between Nigerian forces and Boko Haram elements in Borno State has resulted in significant losses for the terrorist group.

According to a statement by the Nigerian Army on Wednesday, its forces killed 34 terrorists in a gunfight in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria, during which six soldiers also lost their lives.

Army spokesperson Major General Edward Buba stated that the clashes occurred on Saturday in the village of Sabon Gari when the terrorists ambushed troops returning to a military base.

He added that the assailants belonged to Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa and were riding motorcycles and trucks equipped with rifles.

The forces successfully repelled the attack, supported by reinforcements from the Civilian Joint Task Force factions and volunteer groups.

Nigeria has been facing an insurgency by terrorist groups for 16 years in the northeastern part of the country, primarily led by Boko Haram and its offshoot, the Islamic State in West Africa, resulting in heavy human and economic losses, including mass displacement and a humanitarian crisis.

According to Buba, six soldiers were killed in the clash, while a volunteer leader was injured by an improvised explosive device. He added that the Nigerian Air Force also carried out airstrikes on fleeing insurgents, causing additional casualties and injuries, in addition to the 34 killed during the firefight.
