Turkey…Masks written on it “where did $128 billion go?”
Bougra Kavongo, head of the Istanbul branch of the Good Party, said the task of political parties is to highlight the problems of citizens and the difficulties they face.
He added : “As an opposition party, we are looking for answers to many important questions, such as the fate of $128 billion that concerns everyone, who was sold and whether an intermediary was used or not.”
Kavongo explained that they would express their disapproval through their facemasks : “Even if we don’t speak, we will continue to make our voices heard through these masks. “Citizens can obtain and use these masks through the party people in the towns and neighborhoods of the city if they want.”
Kavongo said every issue left unhighlighted leads to another disaster.
He added : “Remember, there was talk about the independence of the central bank and we lost it and four central bank presidents were changed in the last 20 months.”
Kavongo said the ruling authority cannot even ask questions about the matter, saying : “The more you act in this way, the more determined we are to ask the circumstances of this case to be brought to light in a transparent manner.”
This comes after banners hung by the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) in a number of cities, questioning the fate of the huge amount of Turkey’s reserve fund, caused a major security alert, as they were immediately removed by the police as an insult to President Erdoğan.
Last Tuesday, the Turkish parliament rejected with the votes of the coalition the ruling, an interrogation by the Republican People’s Party on the fate of the $128 billion lost from the central bank.
The Central Bank of Turkey spent huge amounts of money in foreign currency during the two years that Berat Albayrak, the president’s son-in-law, was in charge of supporting the local currency after the Turkish lira lost much of its value to foreign currencies and inflation rose dramatically.
Former Turkish Central Bank President Durman Yilmaz and former Vice President Ibrahim Turhan have previously called for an investigation into the fate of $128 billion spent from the Treasury without disclosing its disbursements and the exchange rate applied during sales.
