Qatar offers new support to Erdogan… Details

The State of Qatar has provided new support to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan by signing several new agreements aimed at helping the Turkish government alleviate popular pressures related to the economic downturn and living difficulties.

Turkey and Qatar signed cooperation agreements in various fields the day before yesterday 12, following the ninth meeting of the High Strategic Committee between Turkey and Qatar, hosted in the Qatari capital, Doha. The meeting was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, according to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency.

The cooperation agreements encompassed political, cultural, military, humanitarian aid, and labor-related fields. The two sides also signed cooperation agreements in the areas of education, scientific research, technology, communications and knowledge, finance, as well as investment and trade.

In turn, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani signed the joint declaration for the ninth meeting of the High Strategic Committee between Turkey and Qatar.

Qatar had previously provided financial support to Erdogan ahead of the previous presidential and legislative elections, amid a severe economic crisis that led to a deterioration in living conditions for wide segments of the Turkish population. This occurred against the backdrop of a record-high inflation rate and a significant decline in the value of the Turkish lira.
