Biden thanked the United Arab Emirates for its efforts in evacuating Afghanistan


U.S. President Joe Biden called Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammed ben Zayed Al Nahyane to express his appreciation for the UAE’s support for evacuations from Afghanistan.

According to a White House statement, Biden expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s support in evacuating US and partner nations citizens and Afghan citizens from Afghanistan.

The president said: “We highly appreciate the UAE’s humanitarian efforts to facilitate the safe passage of US citizens, embassy staff and foreigners evacuated from Kabul to third countries.”

“This position reflects the strong and lasting partnership between the UAE and the United States,” he added.

Sheikh Mohammed ben Zayed Al Nahyane and the US president also exchanged views on a number of issues and developments in regional and international files of common concern, stressing the importance of working together to face these challenges.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has already thanked the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and other countries for helping his country with evacuations from Afghanistan.

Between hosting and evacuation, the UAE’s humanitarian hand continues to operate with efficiency witnessed by all, having facilitated the evacuation of 8,500 foreigners from Afghanistan using its aircraft and through its airports.

“This humanitarian initiative comes as the UAE has recently facilitated the departure of dozens of flights carrying hundreds of foreign nationals from Afghanistan, including diplomats, staff of various nationalities and NGO workers, to the country’s airports.”

The United Kingdom has thanked the United Arab Emirates for its support in the evacuation of British and Afghan nationals from Afghanistan.
