John Kerry praises UAE’s ‘’climate neutral by 2050’’ initiative
U.S. Presidential Special Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry praised the efforts of the United Arab Emirates and Expo 2020 Dubai to activate the movement to combat climate change. He called on the world to take inspiration from the “Climate Neutrality by 2050” initiative launched by the United Arab Emirates, with the goal of achieving climate neutrality and zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Kerry said: “We thank the United Arab Emirates for the exceptional organization of Dubai World Cup 2020 and for using this international event to draw the world’s attention to climate change and the importance of intensifying efforts and working together to find solutions to this problem that threatens everyone.”
He added: “I would like to pay tribute to the United Arab Emirates for launching the ‘’Climate Neutrality by 2050’’ initiative, which I encourage all the countries of the world to take as inspiration, to develop a vision for the future that will achieve the goals of climate change in the world,” he said, pointing to the devastating effects of climate change problems, such as floods and forest fires caused by global warming, that threaten the future of humanity.
Kerry also touched on the Milan Summit last week in Italy under the slogan: “Youth for Climate”, calling on young people to shoulder their responsibilities towards the climate and the preservation of the environment to protect their future. Kerry also called on young people to work together to mitigate climate change and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
In his speech, Kerry expressed his hope that the climate summit, which will be held on November 26 in the Scottish city of Glasgow, will contribute to taking effective measures to address climate change.
The United Arab Emirates announced yesterday, Thursday, in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed ben Zayed Al Nahyane, Crown Prince of Abou Dabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the strategic initiative of the United Arab Emirates to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, a national initiative, to achieve zero net emissions by 2050. The initiative, which aims to promote effective economic growth and have a positive impact on the environment, was announced at the UAE’s Expo 2020 Dubai pavilion.
