Bayt Mal Al-Qods: a sustainable Moroccan commitment addressing the needs of Palestinians
The Bayt Mal Al-Qods Agency, operating under the supervision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, announced the implementation of projects in Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip with a total value of 8 million dollars during the year 2025, a record that reflects Morocco’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, moving beyond rhetoric to tangible action on the ground.
The Agency’s work demonstrates that Moroccan solidarity is not merely a political stance, but a continuous humanitarian effort that responds to the everyday needs of the Palestinian people in the most practical terms.
As part of King Mohammed VI’s presidency of the Al-Qods Committee, emanating from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Kingdom has adopted a distinctive approach that combines diplomatic pressure in international forums with concrete field action through the Bayt Mal Al-Qods Agency. This leading role aims to strengthen the resilience of Jerusalem’s residents and to protect the city’s spiritual and human heritage, reaffirming its status as a symbol of coexistence and peace.
Speaking at a press conference in Rabat, the Agency’s Director General, Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, stated that “expenditure amounted to 6.5 million dollars for projects implemented in Jerusalem and 1.5 million dollars for projects in Gaza.”
Regarding funding sources, Cherkaoui explained that total donations collected during the current year reached approximately 7 million dollars. He described 2025 as an exceptional year, owing to the strong solidarity shown by individuals and institutions in response to the tragic events in Gaza.
As for future plans, Cherkaoui confirmed that in 2026 the Agency aims to overcome the acute funding shortage and to mobilize the financial support necessary to carry out its programs and projects.
Addressing the situation in Jerusalem, he pointed to the fragile security conditions in the occupied city. With regard to Gaza, he highlighted the collapse of conditions in the enclave, including the destruction of around 90 percent of the urban fabric, as well as the breakdown of the healthcare system following the destruction of 38 hospitals and the closure of 96 health centers.
Headquartered in Rabat, the Agency is dedicated to supporting the Holy City through the construction of hospitals and social and educational centers, as well as by organizing activities for the benefit of Jerusalem’s residents, aimed at protecting their rights and strengthening their resilience in the face of Israeli occupation.
The Palestinian cause represents a strategic pillar and a structural constant in the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Morocco. It reflects a longstanding commitment that remains unchanged despite shifts in the international environment. This commitment has been embodied in the far-sighted vision of King Mohammed VI, who has made the defense of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people a top priority, with the objective of enabling them to establish an independent and sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Morocco’s diplomatic doctrine regarding this issue is grounded in clear and responsible principles, foremost among them support for the two-state solution, which Morocco views as the only path toward a just and comprehensive peace, through the establishment of a Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967.
Morocco also stresses the need to preserve the legal and historical status of the Holy City, to confront all attempts aimed at erasing its Arab and Islamic identity or altering its pluralistic character, and to engage fully in all efforts to revive the peace process in accordance with internationally recognized references.
