Cholera Devastates Taiz… While Power Affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood Stands By

The central laboratory in Taiz, under the dominance of the (Al-Islah) party, “the arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen,” revealed that an examination of vegetable samples in the city’s central market showed that most of them carried the cholera bacterium.

In a statement relayed by the (Al-Monsif Net) website, the central laboratory in Taiz stated that samples of various vegetables were taken to detect cholera, including carrots, celery, parsley, radishes, tomatoes, etc.

The statement indicated that these samples were examined to verify the presence or absence of the cholera bacterium, and after four days of cultivation and monitoring, it was found that most of them carried the cholera bacterium.

This comes as cholera is spreading widely in several Yemeni provinces, including Taiz Province, where hospitals are filled with cholera cases.

Earlier, doctors in hospitals in Taiz Province called on the local authorities affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Office of Public Health and Population to declare a public health emergency in the area, due to the significant spread of the disease, surpassing the hospitals’ capacity to cope. However, no significant measures have been taken to halt the epidemic.

The Health and Population Office of Taiz Province in the southwest of the country confirmed last Wednesday that the number of deaths from cholera had reached 7, out of a total of 163 confirmed cases, with 497 suspected cases recorded, according to the (Yemen News) agency.

The Deputy Governor of Taiz Province for Health Affairs, Dr. Eylan Abdelhak, pointed out that contaminated water is one of the causes of cholera spread.

The tests conducted by the central laboratory revealed the presence of contaminated water used for irrigating vegetables and fruits. There are multiple sources of contamination, including those used in some camps or houses, as well as cases of contamination in water wells.
