Erdoğan authorities delete recordings of attack against the opposition party
Turkish police removed the footage of surveillance cameras that documented the armed attack on the Peoples Democratic Party last Thursday.
This came according to the website of the Turkish opposition newspaper “Bergon” on Saturday, and was followed by “Al-Ain News”
According to the newspaper, shop owners at the scene of the accident, which claimed the life of a female party employee, said that police officers came to their places of work last Friday morning and removed the cameras after taking a copy of them.
The shopkeepers stated that the police had not given them any legal justification and that they had removed the content of the recording device.
The Peoples Democratic Party building in the province of Izmir was attacked by armed men on Thursday, killing the female employee, Deniz Bueraz.
Police had arrested Anwar Kangir, the attacker of the Peoples Democratic Party headquarters attack, and people inside the building said that the attacker was saying : “I hate the Peoples Democratic Party. I do not belong to any Turkish party. I just hate them.”
“Both the perpetrator and the instigators of the attack are clear, and the government and the instigators are responsible for any negatives,” the Peoples Democratic Party said in a statement.
The incident comes as the Justice and Development Party government seeks to dissolve the Peoples Democratic Party and ban its members from political participation. A case has been filed with the Constitutional Court for this purpose.
