Five countries want Iran to compensate the victims’ families


On Friday, the countries whose people were murdered when Iran unintentionally shot down a Ukrainian jetliner declared that they want Iran to deliver justice and make sure Iran makes full reparations to the families of the victims and affected countries.

In fact, in a joint statement marking the first anniversary of the Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 crash, Ukraine, Canada, Britain, Afghanistan, and Sweden stated that they want Tehran to provide a complete and thorough explanation of the events and decisions that led to this appalling plane crash. Moreover, Sweden previously had related that Iran accepted to compensate the families of the foreign victims.

The shootdown by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard occurred on the same night that Iran launched a ballistic projectile assault that targeting US soldiers in Iraq, in response to the American drone attack that killed Guard Gen. Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad on Jan. 3.

It should note that the plane was in destination to the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. The victims were 57 Canadian citizens and 11 Ukrainians, 17 people from Sweden, four Afghans, and four British citizens. Those from Sweden included both Swedish nationals and people having permits in the Scandinavian country.

Iran had firstly refused its implication in the plane destruct; however, it then declared that its military had mistakenly and unintentionally shot down the Ukrainian jetliner. The statement was signed by ministers of Afghanistan, Canada, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.
