Health Benefits of lemon juice

Lemon juice has many virtues to cleanse the body, boost the immune system, fight against cellular aging… But does it make you lose weight? How much to drink? The point with Amélie Mounier, naturopath.

Lemon juice has properties:

Antiseptics

Antivirals

Is a good body cleanser

Friend of the liver, it stimulates the production of bile

Immunostimulants : “it helps to maintain and boost an immune system sensitive. Vitamin C acts in many metabolic processes, in natural defense and boosting energy” describes Amélie Mounier, naturopath

Alkalizing: lemon, contrary to its acid flavor is not acidifying. “However, in some people when it is ingested, a chemical process takes place and makes the lemon acidic for the body. To know if we support lemon well, it is enough to drink in the morning on waking half a lemon juice in lukewarm water (37-40° C) 30 minutes before breakfast. If after 5-10 minutes we have acid reflux, belching, this is an indicator that our body does not support it well and will have an effect rather acidifying than basifying. So it won’t be beneficial.”says the naturopath.

Antioxidants, anti-inflammatories “because it is rich in flavonoids, limonoids and vitamin C, which is the main asset in helping to neutralize free radicals, which have an effect on the premature aging of cells and organs.” Lemon juice therefore helps to fight against premature aging.

In the same way, it would prevent the appearance of cardiovascular diseases by strengthening the blood vessels, the circulation. It would intervene in the oxidation of LDL (“bad cholesterol”) and could be a good complement in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Lemon juice is a friend of the liver, it acts as a gentle drainer, and allows better secretion of bile. “However, too much lemon juice would be needed to be effective on Gamma GTs. In this case, it is better to take vitamin C as a supplement for more effectiveness, in addition to a follow-up medical and appropriate treatment if necessary”recommends the naturopath.

“Lemon juice is not recommended in case of urinary tract infections, neither locally nor orally” says the expert.

“Lemon juice does not make you lose weight, but as it cleanses the body by burning a little fat thanks to its vitamin C content, it helps to eliminate toxins more easily. However, again, it is preferable to consume vitamin C”, advises Amélie Mounier. It has been observed that people with an adequate intake of vitamin C (respecting the maximum recommended doses) are less prone to obesity problems, with a decrease in the oxidation of body fat. Lemon juice can therefore help and also ease digestion a little. “But don’t just rely on it as a slimming ally!”

To benefit from the properties of lemon juice, it is best to drink it “half a juice in lukewarm water (37-40°C), in the morning, on an empty stomach. It is recommended drink it when you wake up, or every day for a 1-month cure (to be repeated from time to time throughout the year), or 1 to 2 times a week if you feel the needto wake up his body, cleanse gently.” It’s better to consider it as a complement to help his body and benefit from its benefits. It is just as interesting to use it in culinary preparations, especially in a vinaigrette or directly on a fish or in a dish. Be careful, however, to choose a quality, organic, untreated lemon. “In contrast, whether it causes acid reflux or belching 5-10 minutes after taking it is an indicator that it is not well tolerated and will not benefit you” she warns.

“The quantity should be limited to 1/2 organic lemon juice per day, and added to your diet.”

The best time ist “on waking, at the beginning of the day when the body is “neutral”, it thus receives a single piece of information. On the other hand, if we are caught a coldlemon juice can be taken at any time, in warmer water with honey, then gargle it and then swallow it” recommends the expert. It’s a good antiseptic and antiviral.

Lemon juice can become irritant on the digestive tract and especially when you have gastric or intestinal sensitivity. “It is not not recommended for chilly peoplenor to those with a hiatal hernia, gastric problems such as an ulcer, warn the naturopath. It can also acidify the whole body taken in high doses, disturb the acid-base balance and potentially lead to joint problems because of its acidity. So you have to listen to yourself, not take it continuously, take breaks.“
