Iran and the West clash over failure of nuclear deal

Nuclear negotiations between Iran and the West stumbled in their 7th round in Vienna after Iran proposed new drafts for the agreement.

Senior diplomats from France, Britain and Germany said Monday: The Western powers have yet to conduct meaningful negotiations with Iran in talks to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal, and unless rapid progress is made, the deal will soon be “meaningless”, Sputnik reported.

In a statement, the European diplomats added: “At this point we are still not able to enter into real negotiations…Time is running out”.

The statement carried an unusually pessimistic assessment of the efforts to revive the agreement under which Iran limited its nuclear program in return for easing economic sanctions imposed by the United States, the European Union and the United Nations, according to Reuters.

Iran has accused the Western parties to the 2015 nuclear deal of “playing the blame game”.

Chief Iranian negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani said on Twitter: “Some actors still practice blaming instead of real diplomacy, putting forward our ideas early, and working constructively and flexibly to narrow the gaps”.

He added: “Diplomacy is a two-way street, and if there is a real will to correct the mistake of the perpetrator, the path will be paved for a quick and good agreement”.
