Israel turns Gaza into a testing ground for new weapons

Tel Aviv offers weapons used in the war on Gaza for sale on official government websites like the Israeli army website, as fighting continues

Many reports and sources indicate Israel‘s exploitation of the destructive war in Gaza to conduct experiments on new weapons, some of which are highly advanced but also highly damaging to civilians who have suffered significant losses in lives and properties, with their homes destroyed.

Gwenaël Lorenowar wrote on the French website Mediapart that the Israeli army does not hide its use of new weapons and algorithms for the first time in Gaza, saying that arms dealers are aware of new military equipment types before the end of this war. According to the website, the weapons in question are displayed on the official website of the Israeli army, with a brief technical explanation. This includes the ‘Iron Sting’ mortar, which operates on a new guidance system and has been extensively used in civilian areas within the sector. This system, as defined on the official website of the Israeli army, is distinguished by its ability to operate via laser beam or GPS even if satellite service is disrupted, indicating the technological advancement of several Israeli guided weapons.

In response to this data, Shir Hever, an Israeli economist and leader of the campaign to boycott arms sales to Israel, told the site that it is not the first time Israel has tested new weapons in Gaza. He continued, “What is astonishing and different this time is that Tel Aviv is offering these weapons for sale on official government websites and during the war,” which many observers see as revealing Israeli disregard for the lives of civilians in Gaza and their confidence in escaping any international sanctions or pressures.

British doctors in Gaza revealed unprecedented and fatal injuries among Palestinians due to lethal Israeli weapons amid international and regional criticisms of continued bombing of civilians without restraint. Doctors working at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the sector reported witnessing the worst injuries they had ever seen in their professional lives, confirming that “many children have fatal burns, some have lost limbs, and some have suffered fatal injuries to the chest and abdomen.”

The Israeli army is classified among the top 18 armies in the world according to statistics from the American website “Global Firepower” for the year 2023, especially as it possesses advanced weapons and immense airpower in addition to its inventory of nuclear weapons. The Israeli state has concluded many agreements with countries around the world, including some Arab countries with which it has signed peace agreements, to develop its military arsenal, as well as receiving significant military aid from its main ally, the United States.

Recently, the Israeli state has focused on developing drone and anti-missile systems and air defense systems similar to the Iron Dome and “Arrow” systems to counter Hamas rockets, Palestinian factions, as well as rockets from Iran’s allies like the Houthis.
