“It alters DNA”: The dangers of drinking water from plastic bottles

Dr. Rahma Al-Ghaili, a specialist in obesity, has advised against drinking water from plastic bottles, warning of the toxic substances they contain, which can lead to numerous diseases.

Dr. Al-Ghaili shared a video on her Instagram account highlighting the dangers of plastic bottles. She explained that they contain toxic substances such as “phthalates,” which have the ability to alter DNA. This means that future generations may be born with immune diseases, allergies, autism, and reproductive system deformities, particularly in males.

She added that even if these risks are avoided during childhood, it becomes harder to escape them in adulthood, as these substances accumulate in the fatty tissues of the endocrine glands, causing endocrine disorders such as thyroid enlargement and ovarian cysts.

The specialist also emphasized that it is very difficult for the liver to eliminate these toxic substances, except by consuming certain natural ingredients.

It is worth noting that several studies have recommended using safer alternatives, such as glass, ceramic, or stainless steel, instead of plastic for storing or heating food and beverages.

Scientists emphasize the need to avoid heating plastic in microwaves or using it with hot foods to protect public health and prevent the risks associated with plastic nanoparticles and toxic chemicals.

A new study published by The Independent has established a direct link between a commonly used chemical in plastic bottles and a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The chemical in question, Bisphenol A (BPA), is widely used in the production of food and drink containers, including plastic water bottles.

According to the study’s findings, BPA can reduce the body’s sensitivity to insulin, a critical hormone for regulating sugar metabolism. This reduction in insulin sensitivity can significantly increase the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes.
