Monkey pox: a death confirmed by the WHO
Smallpox continues to spread around the world and raise concerns
From January 1 to June 15, “a total of 2,103 confirmed cases, one probable case and one death in Nigeria were reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 42 countries,” the WHO said in a statement issued on Saturday, June 18. This is the first time that many cases are reported simultaneously in “very disparate geographical areas”.
The National Agency for Public Health has identified 183 confirmed cases in France. Most of them in Ile-de-France: 129 people.
The others are located elsewhere in the territory: 13 in Occitanie, 10 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 8 in New-Aquitaine, 7 in Hauts-de-France, 7 in PACA, 5 in Normandy, one in Center-val de Loire, one in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, one in the Great East and one in Brittany.
The European region is also at the center of the spread of the virus, with 1,773 confirmed cases, “84% of the global total”, the WHO statement said on Saturday. “Probably” lower figures than reality, the WHO stresses. Report midilibre.
