PickUp EM… A recent collaboration between the United Arab Emirates and Egypt in car manufacturing

Egypt on Monday signed a contract with the UAE’s M. Glory Holding Company to manufacture pick-up EMs for dual fuel (natural gas-petrol).

The contract was signed by engineer Mohammed Salah Al-Din, Vice-President and Managing Director of the National Authority for Military Production, engineer Mokhtar Atta, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Helwan Company for Machinery and Equipment (the 999 Military Factory), and Dr. Majida Al-Azzizi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirati company “M Glory” for the manufacture of pickup cars.

Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Jammeh said in a statement today, a copy of which was obtained by Al-Ain News, that the production of the dual fuel EM car in Egypt represents an important step to move towards clean energy, deepen this vital industry locally and attract new investments in this sector.

She said the political leadership and the Egyptian government are interested in making the best use of Egypt’s natural gas resources and in maximizing its added value, which effectively contributes to preserving the environment and reducing air pollution by using natural gas as a clean fuel that reduces harmful emissions that have a negative impact on citizens and the economy.

The minister praised the important role of the Ministry of Military Production in producing this type of car in Egypt, noting the importance of strengthening joint industrial cooperation between the government and various international and national companies working in the field of vehicle production in the Egyptian market to localize this advanced industry and transfer all the international expertise and technologies applied in this regard to the local industry.

It is important to support and encourage all efforts and initiatives that would boost economic development and contribute to preserving the environment and natural resources to ensure their sustainability in order to preserve the rights of future generations, she said.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Minister of Military Production Engineer Mohammed Ahmed Morsi said that in fulfillment of Egypt’s vision 2030 in the field of settling modern industrial technologies and creating professional technical cadres, the Ministry of Military Production has made plans to establish an Egyptian/Emirati company to produce and manufacture cars powered by natural gas and gasoline in Egypt as a first precedent in Egypt.

He added that the shareholders in this company are the National Organization for Military Production, the 999 Military Factory, and the Emirati company M. Glory for Car Manufacturing. He explained that an agreement was reached to establish a company under the name “Egyptian Emirati Company for Automobile Manufacturing,” EM.

He added that under this joint cooperation, a pick-up car named “EM” will be produced using natural gas and gasoline with different models and types (a double cabin, two by four, a double cabin, one by two by four).

The Egyptian Minister pointed out that this cooperation contributes to the production of more environmentally-friendly vehicles, combatting pollution, reducing harmful emissions, implementing Egyptian plans to expand the use of natural gas as car fuel, and benefiting from the availability and discoveries of new gas in Egypt recently. He noted that the EM car is an Arab model of manufacturing that we aspire to market globally.

Majda Al-Azzazi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE’s M. Glory Automotive Manufacturing Company, said that the company specializes in the production and manufacture of cars in the UAE and has considerable experience in establishing and managing vehicle companies and factories.

She added that the production capacity resulting from this cooperation is planned to reach 12 thousand cars per year, in order to meet the needs of the local and African market, with quantitative production starting in the first half of 2022.

She explained that the car has many features, having the highest motor capacity for pickup cars in the market, and receiving a European E-mark certificate, as well as comfortable seats, strong air conditioning and high safety means, operating at the appropriate temperatures for the Middle East, the Gulf and Africa, in addition to being able to work on various types of roads (crowded, open, dirt and rough), noting that the pickup truck has been tested for 25000 kilometers on different Egyptian roads over the past three months.
