Putin Invites Arab Leaders to Participate in the First Russian-Arab Summit in October

Coinciding with the launch of the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended an official invitation to the leaders of Arab states and the Secretary-General of the Arab League to attend the first Russian-Arab Summit, scheduled for October 15.

This invitation was conveyed in a message sent by Putin to Arab leaders on the occasion of the opening of the summit in Baghdad. In it, he emphasized Russia’s commitment to fostering constructive dialogue and strengthening friendly relations with all Arab League member states.

Putin highlighted that the planned Russian-Arab Summit would serve as a vital platform for expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation and for promoting peace, security, and stability in the Middle East and North Africa.

In his message, he stressed that the Arab Summit in Baghdad is taking place under exceptionally difficult circumstances, due to the escalating Israeli-Palestinian conflict that has claimed tens of thousands of civilian lives and significantly impacted the socio-economic situation in the region and across the Arab world.

He affirmed that the role of the Arab League is becoming increasingly crucial as an effective mechanism for dialogue and cooperation amid these challenges, praising the collective political and diplomatic efforts of Arab nations to resolve crises through peaceful means and international law.

Putin had previously announced this initiative for a Russian-Arab Summit during his meeting with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman in Moscow last April. This move reflects Russia’s clear desire to deepen its ties with the Arab world at a time of growing regional and global tensions.

The Arab Summit in Baghdad

This invitation comes as the Arab Summit is being held in Baghdad, bringing together a large number of Arab leaders to discuss key regional and developmental issues. The summit’s agenda includes major topics such as supporting regional stability, enhancing joint Arab cooperation, and addressing economic and social challenges.

With the Arab Summit in Baghdad coinciding with this Russian initiative, the October Russian-Arab Summit is expected to open new avenues of cooperation between the two sides, as Russia seeks to expand its influence and assert its role as a key player in the region.
