Submission of Date: Erdogan Party’s New Plan to Control Elections
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is seeking to further its interests in various ways and gain power for good in Turkey by preparing for the upcoming Turkish election season.
There is considerable controversy over Turkey’s upcoming elections, which face fierce competition between President Erdogan and the Turkish opposition, given the many crises the country faces, especially the deteriorating economic crisis.
Date Changed
The Justice and Development Party (AKP) has recently stirred controversy after announcing a new date for Turkish elections in June, but the ruling party has demanded that the elections be held in April.
This has given the AKP signals that it may move forward to April or May to avoid the Hajj season, the Eid al-Adha holiday, and large-scale movements of citizens from cities to the countryside.
According to Reuters: The party wants elections to be held on 18 June, but this time coincides with the summer holiday season when people travel, party spokesman Ömer Çelik said, adding that no final decision has been made.
Informed sources say that Erdogan and his party want to control all Turks at a time when everyone is in the country in order to regain control of the throne.
The sources indicated that Erdogan hopes that his Justice and Development Party (AKP), which has been ruling the country since 2003, will remain in power.
Erdogan Set for New Term
Erdogan recently confirmed that he would run for another term in the country, despite the difficulties and crises Turkey faces under his rule, from the accumulation of terrorism and chaos and spreading extremism in the country to the deterioration of the economy, the collapse of the Turkish currency, the increase of inflation, and the suffering of Turks due to unemployment and lack of livelihood in the country.
Erdogan has been president since 2014, announcing that he will be a candidate for a new term in the context of an economic crisis marked by inflation of around 85 % over the course of a year, and hoping that his conservative Islamist Justice and Development Party (AKP), which has ruled the country since 2003 without interruption, will remain in power.
Erdogan likely to lose in polls
Several recent opinion polls have shown that Erdogan will lose the election in a hotly contested and likely victory rally. If Erdogan and Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu run in the second round, Erdogan will receive 38.2 percent of the vote and İmamoğlu 50.6 %.
Last month that figure was in favor of Imamoglu as well, at 42.9%, while Erdogan fell 4.2 points and Imamoglu rose 7.7 points.
According to the poll, if Erdogan and Republican People’s Party CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu run, Erdogan would get 40.1% of the vote, and Kılıçdaroğlu 44.9%.
