Turkey had stopped insulting France and the European Union
France’s foreign minister stated that Turkey ceased the insult of France and the European Union, which created some reassurance; however, relations would still fragile until that it takes real action.
Indeed, Ankara has repetitively exchanged critics with Paris about its policies on Syria, Libya, the eastern Mediterranean and other subjects, however; the NATO members declared in February that they were working together to normalize ties.
Jean-Yves Le Drian informed a parliamentary hearing late on Tuesday; Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan talked with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron as part of those efforts, saying that there aren’t any more insults and the language is more reassuring.
He also indicated that the withdraw of Turkish research ships from Cypriot waters in the eastern Mediterranean and Ankara that showing an intention to continue discussions with Greece about a long-standing maritime disagreement were positive signs.
He also said that it’s fragile, because the list of disagreements is very long, but we want a healthy relationship with Turkey, indicating the difference about Libya, Iraq and Nagorno-Karabakh, and adding that actions are needed and we will be able to position ourselves when those actions are carried out. For now it’s just verbal action.
