Turkish delegation led by Çavuşoğlu arrives in Libya’s Tripoli


A high-level Turkish delegation led by Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has arrived in the Libyan capital Tripoli for an unannounced visit.

The delegation, which includes Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu, includes the defense and interior ministers, the intelligence chief, the head of the Presidential Liaison Service and the presidential spokesman. The visit comes ahead of a scheduled summit of NATO leaders scheduled for June 14.

The visit also comes as UN Special Envoy to Libya Ján Kubiš continues his contacts to drum up more support for the political process in Libya.

Kubiš held consultations with local and international actors on Libya in preparation for the Berlin II Conference, while the Special Envoy stressed the importance of holding comprehensive elections on December 24 and the start of the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces from Libya.

Meanwhile, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s support for the political process to settle the Libyan crisis, stressing during a press conference in Rabat with Libyan Foreign Minister Najla al-Mangoush that Morocco has no agenda in Libya

Al-Mangoush also stressed the importance of partnership with Morocco to counter terrorism and extremism in the region.
