UAE gives Yemenis hope with exceptional help, despite challenges from Corona


The UAE wants to extend the bridges of aid and relief to various countries of the world, especially the Arab countries. Yemen led the country which received exceptional aid from the UAE due to the lack of most health and education services, due to the harsh conditions of war imposed by the Houthi militia.

Despite the challenges posed to the world by the corona pandemic, the UAE has continued to pump aid to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and improve their living conditions.

The important role of the UAE Red Crescent Authority in this ordeal has been demonstrated by improving the level of relief operations provided to Yemen and providing various supports to Yemen, the government and the people.

  • January 2020

Since the beginning of 2020, the United Arab Emirates, through her humanitarian arm, the Red Crescent Authority, has provided support to the people of Hadramawt and Shabwah governorates in Yemen with rescue convoys of around 50 tons of food, as part of her humanitarian efforts to help the brothers in Yemen, alleviate their suffering and improve their living conditions.

The UAE Red Crescent team distributed 400 food baskets, weighing 33 tons and 128 kg to 2,050 2050 members of poor and needy families in the districts of Qousseir, Al-Hafah, Asad Al-Fayah and Sarar in the region of Raydah and Qusayr in Hadramawt Governorate.

The team also distributed 200 food baskets weighing 16 tonnes to 1,400 needy, poor and low-income families in the old town of Habban in the Habban district of Shabwah governorate.

  • 120 tons

The UAE provided through the Red Crescent Authority in February 2020 5562 integrated food baskets equivalent to 120 tons of food, of which 20 thousand people from incapable families, orphans and mothers of martyrs benefited from the west coast of Yemen.

In terms of food aid, and as part of its food program, the authority also distributed around 103 tons of dates in liberated areas on the west coast of Yemen, benefiting 64,000 people.

In the education sector, the Red Crescent Authority opened three schools in Dhubab and Al-Mokha districts of Taiz governorate.

In the health and environment sector, Red Crescent Authority mobile clinics provided free treatment services to people with dengue, malaria, cholera and respiratory diseases in Mawza districts, Al-Waziya, Al-Duraimi and Tuhayta.

  • Mir Ramadan

In April 2020, the UAE provided 4,000 food baskets of over 171 tonnes of aid, food and basic supplies to families who cannot access Shihr district in Hadramawt, Yemen, coinciding with the advent of the blessed month of Ramadan, in order to alleviate their suffering and improve their living conditions.

The UAE Red Crescent Authority led a relief convoy from “Mir Ramadan” distributed in two stages by two thousand baskets at each stage, including 20 thousand families who cannot benefit from the Al-Shihr district.

  • May

In May 2020, the UAE provided 1,000 food baskets weighing around 43 tonnes to residents of Dawan District in Yemeni Hadramawt Governorate, benefiting 5,000 people.

During the blessed month of Ramadan, the authorities provided 770 tons of aid and 400 kg of food for the people of Hadramout governorate in Yemen, as part of the relief program.

  • An emergency relief convoy

The UAE Red Crescent Authority led an emergency relief convoy to Tarim District, Hadramawt Governorate, to alleviate the suffering of families affected by the city’s closure, after cases of infection with the coronavirus have been recorded.

The relief convoy included 1,000 food baskets, weighing 42 tons and 800 kg of food and basic items, and the target is 5,000 needy people and affected families in different parts of the district.

This aid was part of an emergency plan drawn up by the humanitarian intervention authority, to relieve the affected families who were directly affected by the work stoppage and the curfew that is applied in the country during these days as a precautionary measure to limit the spread of the Corona pandemic.

  • Aid rate

With the delivery of aid provided to the people of Tarim, the number of food baskets distributed by the UAE Red Crescent Authority in Hadramawt increased from (1411 tonnes and 928 kg) to (26,410) food baskets since the beginning of 2020. As this aid has targeted more than (13 2050) needy and affected people and families in the province.

  • 1400 families

And in July, the UAE Red Crescent Authority began distributing aid for the second half of this year to more than 1,400 families in districts controlled by the Houthi militia to escape oppression and abuse systematic practices it has practiced against them since it invaded their country regions five years ago.

The UAE Red Crescent Authority provided 85 tons of food aid to the Yemeni people of Khokha this week.

And through the UAE Red Crescent Authority, 40 tons of relief supplies were provided to 1,370 families in Al-Alili camp in the coastal town of Al-Khawkhah, who had fled there. 5 years ago from the cities of Al-Hudaydah, Al-Duraimi, Al-Hawk, Al-Hali and Al-Rabsa following the brutality of the coup Houthi militia.

  • Charity project

In the same month, the UAE by the UAE Red Crescent Authority, launched their annual charity project to distribute Eid clothes to needy families in Taiz Governorate, as part of various aids provided by UAE to brotherly Yemeni people in various services , the areas of community and development.

The organization’s team distributed Eid clothes to 400 families in Al-Thaoubani villages in Al-Mokha district, Taiz governorate, west coast, so that they can share with their peers the joy of the holidays.

In August, the United Arab Emirates provided 500 food baskets containing 21 tons and 400 kilograms of food aid to residents of rural Mukalla district in Hadramawt Governorate, benefiting 2,500 people from incapable families, while the United Arab Emirates Emirates Red Crescent mobile medical clinic continued its free services in Hadramawt.

  • 37 tons

In September, the United Arab Emirates provided 37 tons of food aid to displaced people on the west coast of Yemen and to the population of Al-Shihr in Hadramawt.

The Red Crescent team distributed 500 food baskets weighing 21 tons and 400 kilograms of food aid, benefiting 2,500 people from families without capacity in the regions of Tabahla and Zagfa in the Shihr district of Hadramawt governorate .

Through the Red Crescent Authority, 16 tonnes of relief supplies were also provided to 1,200 families in Al-Alili camp in Al-Khawkha town in Al-Hudaydah governorate, during the second phase of 2020.

  • Aid rate

The number of food baskets distributed from early 2020 to September reached 31,910 food baskets weighing 2,483 tonnes and 328 kilograms, benefiting 150,550 people from families unable to do so in Hadramawt.

In October, the UAE Red Crescent Authority led a humanitarian aid convoy into Yemen that included 25 tons of various food items, benefiting more than 3,500 people.

The following villages have benefited from this assistance: Ghail al-Hudhira, al-Mashawla, Gil al-Bawakir and Gil Bani Ali in al-Waziya district in Taiz governorate, Yemen, which suffer from scarcity of resources financial and lack of income consequence of growing unemployment and disruption of interests due to the war imposed by the Houthi militia on the inhabitants of these areas.

  • The month of November

During the first half of November, Crescent teams in Hadramout governorate distributed 3,635 food baskets weighing 154 tons of basic materials, including areas of central Al-Mukalla, Ghayl Bin Yameen and villages of Dawan, including 18,175 members of needy and affected people the families of the governorate of Hadramout benefited from it.

On the west coast, the Red Crescent team distributed 1,270 food baskets weighing 64 tonnes of food during the first half of November. These food baskets were distributed to displaced people in Al-Hudaydah and Al-Durayhimi Governorate, Al-Alili and Al-Hawash and Nagoya regions of Moza district.

  • January 2021

In early 2021, the United Arab Emirates, through the UAE Red Crescent Authority, continued to deliver relief convoys to liberated districts on the west coast of Taiz governorates and Al-Hudaydah, Al-Hima in the Tuhayat district of Al-Hodeidah governorate.
