The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are among the first Arab countries to express their solidarity with the Moroccan people in their ordeal following the earthquake


Morocco is witnessing an unprecedented Arab, regional, and international humanitarian solidarity campaign after the devastating earthquake that struck several cities, especially Marrakech, resulting in hundreds of deaths, injuries. and infrastructure damage, revealing the international friendships the country enjoys with many nations announcing their readiness to assist the kingdom.

The United Arab Emirates was one of the first Arab countries to stand in solidarity with Morocco in its time of need. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed offered condolences to the Moroccan people. and King Mohammed VI for the earthquake victims, declaring his country’s solidarity with Rabat “in these difficult times.” He stated in a tweet on his platform, “I extend my condolences to my brother King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people for the earthquake victims. We were saddened by this incident and stand by our brothers in sisterly Morocco in these difficult times. May God protect Morocco from all harm.”

The President of the UAE has decided to organize an airlift to aid the victims of the Morocco earthquake, following a directive from him. according to the official news agency WAM, just hours after the earthquake occurred. Sheikh Mohamed ordered “the dispatch of an urgent airlift to transport relief aid to the brethren affected by the earthquake that struck some areas of the sisterly Kingdom of Morocco and to provide various forms of support.” The initiative comes “within the framework of the strong brotherly relations that unite the UAE and Morocco, to enhance its efforts in facing the crisis,” according to WAM.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its heartfelt condolences to the Moroccan government and people and to the families of the victims in this painful tragedy, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.

Saudi Arabia also expressed its condolences to Morocco for the earthquake and declared its solidarity with it during this tragic event.

Egypt offered its condolences to Morocco for the “devastating” earthquake that struck several regions and cities in Morocco.

Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the government and people of the sisterly Kingdom of Morocco for the earthquake victims, affirming its full solidarity with Morocco in this painful incident.

The head of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, offered his condolences to the Moroccan people and King Mohammed VI for the earthquake, stating, “We express our full solidarity with the families of the victims, and we pray to Almighty God to protect Morocco.”

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific. and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), headquartered in Rabat, expressed its condolences to Morocco for the earthquake victims and stated its readiness to cooperate with the Moroccan authorities in addressing the damage caused by this earthquake, including restoration and maintenance of historical sites that were affected.

The United Nations announced its readiness to support Morocco’s efforts in helping the earthquake victims.

Charles Michel, the President of the European Council. stated that the European Union is ready to support Morocco in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.”

“And Michel wrote on the X platform, ‘Our hearts are with those affected by this tragedy and the rescue workers participating in the search operation.’ He wrote that the news of the earthquake was ‘terrifying.’ He continued. ‘The European Union is ready to support Morocco in these difficult moments.’

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed his condolences to the victims, writing on X this morning, ‘This is bad news from Morocco… In these difficult hours. our thoughts are with the victims of the devastating earthquake. Our condolences to all those affected by this natural disaster.’

German relief workers are preparing to provide potential assistance to Morocco in the aftermath of the violent earthquake that struck the kingdom.

A spokesperson for the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief said this morning. ‘We are monitoring the situation and currently preparing for a possible mission.’ noting that Morocco has not yet requested assistance. The request for assistance can be directed to the European Union or directly to Germany. The spokesperson added that in addition to sending rescue teams, the agency can also set up water treatment stations.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sadness over the loss of life resulting from the earthquake in Morocco today and affirmed India’s readiness to provide all possible assistance to Morocco during this difficult time. Modi stated on X, ‘I felt deep sorrow due to the loss of life caused by the earthquake in Morocco. In this tragic hour. my sympathies are with the people of Morocco. Sincere condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured. India is ready to provide all possible assistance to Morocco during this challenging time.’

The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Naser Kanaani, expressed his condolences ‘to the people and government of Morocco’ after ‘the horrifying earthquake’ in a statement posted on the ministry’s website.

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly expressed his country’s readiness ‘to provide assistance by all possible means’ on the X platform.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo stated. ‘Our thoughts go out to the victims and their families.’ offering ‘sincere condolences to the government and people of Morocco.’

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen affirmed her solidarity with the Moroccan people.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin offered his condolences to Morocco. while the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the activation of a crisis cell. stating that it is considering sending assistance.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed. in a statement addressed to the King of Morocco, that they ‘share the grief .and mourning of the friendly Moroccan people.’ offering ‘sincere condolences.’ Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also extended his ‘sincere condolences’ to the Moroccan King and people. confirming his country’s ‘solidarity.’

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed his condolences to the ‘brotherly’ Moroccan people, affirming his country’s support ‘by all means.’

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a ‘condolence message’ to Morocco.

US President Joe Biden expressed ‘deep sorrow for the loss of life and destruction’ caused by the earthquake in Morocco. stating that the United States is ‘prepared to provide any necessary assistance to the Moroccan people.’

Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on X that he is ‘sending his thoughts and prayers to the Moroccans,’ expressing ‘readiness to meet immediate health needs.'”
