Victims of Gold… 98 Killed in Landslide in the Philippines (Photos)


Philippine authorities have announced an increase in the death toll from the landslide that occurred in a gold mining area in the southern part of the country to 98.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency’s office stated that rescue teams continue to search for nine other individuals who are still missing.

A landslide in Masara, near a gold mine, buried the bus station for mine employees, along with 55 houses in this town located on Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines.

Heavy rains that fell on parts of Mindanao, the second-largest island in the Philippines, over the past weeks, caused dozens of landslides and floods, forcing thousands of people to take refuge in emergency shelters.

In this context, the United Arab Emirates expressed sincere condolences and solidarity with the friendly Republic of the Philippines for the victims of the landslide that occurred in Davao del Oro province in the south of the country, resulting in the death, injury, and disappearance of dozens of people, as well as significant damage.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, expressed heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the Philippine government, the friendly Filipino people, as well as the families of the victims, and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.
