Yemeni Rights Activist: New statistics reveal tragic conditions endured by children

New statistics have revealed the tragic conditions endured by children in Yemen

Numerous Yemeni and international reports have documented hundreds of violations against children during the years of the war ignited by the Houthi militia, including depriving them of services guaranteed by international laws and principles, as well as the abduction of more than 176 children and 217 students out of 16,804 citizens by armed militia members from 2014 to 2022.

Houthi violations

Human rights reports accuse the Houthi militia of continuing to employ terrorist methods and committing the worst abuses against Yemen’s children. These abuses include depriving them of services guaranteed by international laws and principles, pursuing and kidnapping many of them, placing them in prisons, and involving others in combat zones.

New crime

The Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia continues to detain a child in one of the police sections in the captured capital, Sanaa, for the past three days on charges of carrying the national flag. Human rights activists have affirmed that this act committed by the Houthi terrorist militia against those celebrating the Yemeni Revolution on September 26, especially the arrest and detention of children, is a crime punishable by law, as they have detained children under the legal age.

Tragic conditions

Ahmed Jabari, a Yemeni human rights activist, revealed that Yemen’s children are still living in tragic and extremely difficult conditions. They face death under the shelling of militias and their landmines, as well as death from hunger, diseases, and epidemics, all as a result of the war ignited by the Houthi group.

He added that childhood in Yemen has been subjected to the worst violations in the country’s history during this period. This includes the recruitment of children, their involvement in battles, deprivation of education, and deliberate targeting and killing through various heinous methods.

He continued: The group commits the worst crimes against the kidnapped children, women, and various segments of society, such as isolating them in confined places.
