The UAE is the least corrupt country.. and leads a global index

For the 6th year in a row, the UAE has been at the forefront of the Middle East and North Africa region in the Corruption Perceptions Index. The index, published annually by the German non-governmental and non-profit organization Transparency International, monitors corruption and observes the most transparent, impartial and the least corrupt country in the world.

The organization issued today the “Corruption Perception Index 2021”, which ranks 180 countries in the world and monitors the highest transparency and lowest corruption among it over the past year.

The UAE was ranked 24th in the world in the Corruption Perceptions Index 2021 after scoring 69 out of 100 points.

This year, the UAE surpassed the United States in terms of transparency, integrity and the reduction of corruption, which came in 27th place with 67 points, South Korea (32th with 62 points), Spain (34th with 61 points), Italy (the 42 with 56 points), Malaysia (62nd with 48 points), and China (66th with 45 points).

The idea of the index depends on monitoring the levels of experts’ perceptions, as well as the broad base of people in each country of corruption in the public sector. Thus, the index is composite, combining expert assessments with opinion polls among the public.

The countries that are less aware of corruption have a high score, the great end of which is 100 points, which means they have a higher level of transparency, and vice versa.

New Zealand and Denmark maintained the lead of the index this year, as they had shared the previous two years, but with the difference, Finland jumped this year from the 3rd position it received last year, sharing the lead. This year, the top three countries received 88 points each, while New Zealand and Denmark recorded no change this year from last year. Finland’s total rose by two points this year.

As the top spot this year was triple, the same was true in the 4th place, where it was shared by three countries: Singapore, Scandinavian neighbors, Sweden and Norway, with 85 points each.
