Rafsanjani’s daughter: We support keeping Iran’s guards in the terrorism list

Reformist political activist and former MP Faezeh Hashemi Rafsanjani has endorsed keeping the Revolutionary Guard militias on the US sanctions list.

Faezeh Rafsanjani, daughter of late former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, said on Sunday that “removing the Revolutionary Guard from the list of terrorism is not in the interest of Iran and its people”.

“The Revolutionary Guard’s continued presence on the terrorist list will force it to return to its military barracks”, she said, adding that “the activities of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard are expanding day by day, which makes it more difficult”.

“The IRGC launches rockets and declares it our job”, she said, describing the IRGC’s actions as “bringing harm to the country. What the IRGC receives from Iranian society is negative and must be stopped somewhere”.

According to Faezeh Hashemi Rafsanjani, the only remaining way for the IRGC to return to its military barracks is to continue to impose sanctions on it as a terrorist organization.

Tehran has repeatedly asked the United States to remove the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) militia from its terror list, but Washington has so far refused.

In 2019, former U.S. President Donald Trump listed the entire IRGC as a terrorist organization, on charges that the Iranian military group actively participates in the financing and incitement of terrorism as an instrument of governance.

In March, the Revolutionary Guards targeted the city of Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, with 12 ballistic missiles under flimsy pretexts and pretexts.
