Seeking Competitiveness: “Threads” Platform Introduces New Features

Amid growing competition with the “Bluesky” app, which has seen a significant rise in user numbers over recent weeks, “Threads” by “Meta” continues to enhance its platform by rolling out a series of much-anticipated new features.

These improvements are overseen by Adam Mosseri, the head of “Instagram,” who played a key role in launching the “Threads” app as a competitor to “X” last July.

According to Mosseri, a range of new features is being tested to help users achieve more accurate search results and make it easier to explore trending topics.

As reported by Indian Express, the latest updates on “Threads” include several features aimed at enhancing the user experience. Among them is a new option for customizing feeds, allowing users to pin multiple and diverse feeds to their homepage.

These feeds can be tailored to specific topics or accounts, giving users greater control over what they see instead of solely relying on the app’s algorithmic recommendations. Additionally, the “Threads” algorithm has been adjusted to prioritize posts from accounts followed by the user, reducing the appearance of irrelevant content in the feeds.

On another front, the long-awaited horizontal video feature was introduced to “Threads” last month. This update enables users to watch videos in landscape mode, a previously unavailable option on the platform. Another minor enhancement allows users to see others’ replies while composing their own, making interactions with posts smoother.

Regarding the search experience, users will soon be able to search for posts within a specific historical range or from particular accounts. In terms of trending topics, “Threads” is also testing a new page showcasing an expanded range of popular subjects. However, this feature is currently limited to users in the United States.

As for advertising on the platform, “Meta” revealed earlier this year its plans to introduce ads on “Threads” starting January 2025, through a small group of advertisers.

Although reports suggest that the platform is exploring ads as a potential revenue source, Susan Li, Meta’s Chief Financial Officer, confirmed that “Threads” will not generate financial returns next year.

In summary, “Threads” is implementing a range of improvements designed to enhance user experience and engagement on the platform while also exploring future economic opportunities through advertising.
