Billionaire, Party, and Politics… Trump’s Shadow Appears in Australia

The political journey of former U.S. president and real estate tycoon Donald Trump has been an inspiration worldwide, with some attempting to replicate it in different contexts and societies.
On Wednesday, Australian billionaire Clive Palmer launched a political party that he says is directly inspired by Trump, just months ahead of the country’s federal elections.
The mining magnate stated that his party, “Trumpet of Patriots,” aims to “drain the swamp” in Canberra, referring to Trump’s strategy of significantly downsizing the government.

During a press conference announcing the party’s formation, Palmer stated: “We believe Donald Trump has been incredibly successful in reducing public spending.”
He also criticized mass immigration and said that the party would recognize only two types of human gender, reflecting a stance favored by Trump.
Palmer went on to say that his party plans to nominate candidates for all 150 seats in Australia’s House of Representatives, as well as for the Senate.

Currently ranked 18th on Australia’s list of richest people, with a net worth of $2.1 billion, according to Forbes, Palmer is no stranger to politics.
He previously led the United Australia Party, a right-wing political group, and served as a member of the House of Representatives for three years starting in 2013.
During the last federal elections, he spent nearly AUD 100 million (approximately USD 63.52 million) on his party’s election campaign, securing a single seat in the Senate.
