Palestinian political analyst: despite their importance, aid convoys are not enough to meet Gaza’s needs

The thirty-seventh humanitarian aid convoy set out on Monday towards the Rafah crossing in preparation for entering the Gaza Strip, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the delivery of urgent relief to Palestinian civilians affected by the continuing offensive.

According to humanitarian sources, the convoy consists of dozens of trucks loaded with food supplies, medicines, essential medical equipment, as well as shelter materials and basic necessities for women and children.

This shipment is part of a series of aid convoys that have been organized regularly since the beginning of the crisis, in an attempt to ease the impact of the unprecedented humanitarian situation in the enclave.

The sources confirmed that the preparation of the convoy was coordinated with international humanitarian and relief organizations, to ensure that assistance reaches those most in need, at a time when the territory suffers from severe shortages of food, medicine, and an almost total collapse of basic services.

The dispatch of the 37th convoy comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to increase the volume of aid allowed into Gaza. United Nations estimates indicate that up to two million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

Residents of Gaza are awaiting the arrival of this new convoy with hopes that it will help cover part of their growing needs, especially with the rising number of displaced persons and the worsening situation in hospitals and shelters.

Palestinian political analyst Dr. Samer Al-Aloul stressed that the dispatch of the thirty-seventh humanitarian convoy represents an important step under the current harsh conditions. However, he emphasized that the size of such convoys remains limited when compared to the scale of the humanitarian disaster.

He explained that sporadic aid deliveries do not meet the daily needs of two million people, particularly given the deteriorating health situation, the shortage of medicines, and the declining capacity of hospitals.

Al-Aloul added that while the new convoy of food, medical, and relief items is part of regional and international efforts to support civilians, the field reality requires a significant increase in both the volume and the frequency of aid.

He also noted that the continuation of the offensive and the blockade renders any humanitarian support temporary and limited in effect, as aid cannot be separated from political efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and opening permanent safe corridors.

In conclusion, he stated that while the 37th convoy carries important messages of solidarity from supporting states and organizations, it also underscores the international community’s shortcomings in pressuring for the lifting of the blockade and ensuring a sustainable flow of supplies, in a way that preserves Palestinian dignity and guarantees the minimum requirements for survival.
