Trump studies Iran’s future after the war and keeps an eye on Khamenei’s successor

Questions are increasing regarding the nature of the role the United States may play in Iran once the ongoing military operations come to an end.

The White House announced on Wednesday that President Donald Trump is discussing with his advisers the role the United States could play in Iran after the conclusion of the military campaign, while U.S. intelligence agencies are monitoring reports indicating that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Supreme Leader, has emerged as one of the leading candidates to succeed him.

According to Reuters, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told reporters: “We have also seen these reports, and this is something our intelligence agencies are looking into. In reality, we will have to wait and see what happens.”

Mojtaba, Khamenei’s son, has emerged as one of the most prominent candidates to succeed his father after spending years consolidating close ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and strengthening his influence within the religious establishment.

Leavitt added that Trump is seriously considering, and discussing with his national security team, the role Washington might play in Iran’s future after the operation ends. However, the primary focus at the moment remains on the success of the military operation.

She also defended the objectives of the United States in the joint Israeli-American war against Iran amid criticism that Washington failed to provide evidence of an imminent threat posed directly by Tehran to the United States. She added that Trump believed the American public supported the war.

She explained that “the decision to launch this operation is based on the cumulative impact of the various direct threats that Iran has posed to the United States.”

She continued: “Once again, this is a rogue regime that has threatened the United States, its allies, and its people for 47 years, and the American people fully understand that.”
