Egypt comments on “Turkey’s dealings with the Brotherhood” and puts another condition

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Choukri said on Sunday that Turkey’s decision on how to deal with the Muslim Brotherhood is in line with international law.

In a telephone conversation with the Egyptian satellite channel ”Al-Qahera Wa Nas” on Saturday evening, Choukri said that “the return and normalization of relations with Turkey is not only linked to the way Ankara deals with the Muslim Brotherhood, but also to the Libyan file.”

“Normal relations between states should be based on non-interference in internal affairs,” he said.

“Turkey’s decision to ban the Brotherhood’s media activities and stop incitement is a positive step, in line with the rules of international law,” Choukri said.

“The continuation of these policies means the normalization of relations between the two countries and an optimal framework for relations,” he said.

“What is important is the act in itself, and we do not have to go through any request or initiative,” he said.

He continued : “It is important to observe the rules of international law by not interfering in internal affairs and not making the territory a station and springboard for hostile elements targeting the people of another State, if this is documented and stable, this is a positive development.”

“The Libyan issue is a national security issue for Egypt, and it is related to the stability of Libya and the commitment to the political process that has been approved,” the Egyptian foreign minister said.

On April 10th, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu congratulated his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Choukri, on the occasion of the advent of the holy month of Ramadan. Earlier, Turkey made statements expressing its desire to open a new page.

This was followed by several steps on two political platforms, one by Moataz Matar and the other by Mohamed Nasser, who went out in public, declaring a halt to their appearance and leaving on “open leave”.

Apart from ”Al-Sharq” and ”Mekameleen”, Istanbul is home to platforms, media, leaders and Brotherhood elements opposed to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi.
