“Bear” on the surface of Mars. A stunning photo that raises a commotion

The American University of Arizona shared a strange photograph taken by its camera at an altitude of 250 kilometers on the planet Mars.

The photo has sparked controversy because it contains a strange look that resembles the face of a “panda”.

According to the University of Arizona, this photo was taken of a remarkable variety of geologic formations on December 12, 2022, when the Mars Reconnaissance Vehicle was sailing about 251 kilometers above the Red Planet.

The HiRISE imaging site, which is supervised by the University of Arizona’s Lunar and Planetary Laboratory by Poole Technology and Aerospace Inc., said it’s probably just a broken hill in the middle of an ancient crater.

“There is a V-shaped collapse structure hill, two holes (eyes) and a circular fracture pattern (head). The circular fracture pattern may be caused by sediment settling over a buried nozzle.”

“Viewers may see the face of a bear emerging from a collection of dusty rocks and cracks thanks to a phenomenon called pareidolia,” he said.

HiRISE has been taking pictures of the red planet from orbit since 2006, and according to the University of Arizona, it is the most powerful camera ever sent to another planet.
