Clashes, Killings, and Security Chaos… The Muslim Brotherhood Fuels Unrest in Taiz

Yemeni activists have denounced what they describe as leniency by the authorities in Taiz province — controlled by the Islah Party, the Yemeni branch of the Muslim Brotherhood — in pursuing individuals wanted by law enforcement. They argue that such leniency opens the floodgates to chaos, threatens social peace, and emboldens killers and criminals to continue their acts.

This criticism comes in response to the recent killing of two young men by armed assailants and violent clashes that broke out in the Rawda district in the city center. According to Al-Omana Net, several of those involved in the fighting — many of whom are affiliated with security and military units tied to the Brotherhood — used light and medium weaponry, causing panic among local residents.

Activists emphasized that the lack of firm law enforcement and the failure to punish offenders only serve to worsen the city’s deteriorating security conditions.

These developments come amid a growing wave of lawlessness in Taiz, with increasing complaints from residents about recurring acts of thuggery and assaults carried out by armed groups linked to the Islah Party over the years — actions that have repeatedly disturbed public order without facing any real deterrent from the security authorities.
