“For the ‘Resettlement’ of Gaza’s Population… Three African Destinations on the Radar of the US and Israel”

Three African destinations are on the radar of the United States and Israel to use their lands as potential resettlement locations for Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

This was revealed by the “Associated Press”, quoting American and Israeli officials, in a move that reflects Washington and Tel Aviv’s determination to proceed with a plan that has been widely condemned and raises serious legal and ethical concerns.

According to the agency, these discussions have taken place with officials from Sudan, Somalia, and Somaliland, though they were not named.

Given that the three areas are poor and, in some cases, ravaged by violence, the proposal casts doubt on Trump‘s stated goal of resettling Palestinians from Gaza in a “nice area.” According to the same source.

The agency reported that unnamed Sudanese officials rejected initiatives from the United States, while officials from Somalia and Somaliland stated they were unaware of any discussions.

Separate outreach efforts from the US and Israel with these three potential destinations began last month, a few days after President Donald Trump presented his Gaza plan alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to American officials, who said Tel Aviv was leading the discussions.

The US and Israel have a variety of incentives – financial, diplomatic, and security-related – to offer these potential partners. The agency noted that the White House declined to comment on these outreach efforts.

Later, the Foreign Minister of Somaliland confirmed that there were “no talks with any party regarding the resettlement of Palestinians.”

Trump’s Plan

Under Trump’s plan, the inhabitants of Gaza, numbering over two million, would be permanently relocated to another location.

Trump proposed that the US would take over the management of the region and develop it as a real estate project.

The idea of the mass relocation of Palestinians was previously considered a far-fetched notion by the extreme nationalist factions in Israel. However, since Trump introduced the idea during a White House meeting last month, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised it, calling it a “bold vision.”

Arab countries have strongly opposed Trump’s proposal, offering an alternative reconstruction plan that would keep Palestinians on their land.

Human rights groups have argued that forcing or pressuring Palestinians to leave could constitute a potential war crime.
