Houthi militias bombard western Yemen with several ballistic missiles
The Houthi militias bombarded Yemen’s western coast on Wednesday with several ballistic missiles.
Local residents said that three consecutive explosions were heard across the city of Mokha, in Taiz Governorate, while a powerful blast also shook the city of Al-Khokha in Hodeidah Governorate.
The sources explained that the explosions were caused by the impact of at least five Houthi ballistic missiles targeting the outskirts of the two cities, in what they described as another manifestation of the militias’ ongoing military deadlock, with civilian sites and infrastructure bearing the brunt of the attacks.
Local sources confirmed that three of the missiles targeting areas along the western coast were launched from Mount Baadan, a fourth from the Al-Hamza military camp in Ibb Governorate, while a fifth was fired from Mount Uman, east of Taiz.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, the militias targeted the rural areas of Mokha with eight ballistic missiles and fired another missile toward southern Al-Khokha.
As the Houthi bombardment continued, the number of missiles launched by the militias over the past several hours rose to 14.
Earlier on Wednesday, Houthi militias had also fired two ballistic missiles at a popular market at the Mokha junction in the Mawza countryside, along Yemen’s western coast, destroying a civilian workshop.
In a statement, the National Resistance said that “the Houthi militias targeted a popular market in the countryside of Mawza District, west of Taiz, with two ballistic missiles.” It added that “the militias affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted a civilian workshop in the Mokha junction market, in the Mawza countryside, with two ballistic missiles.”
It noted that “the bombardment caused damage to the workshop, which was empty of workers, as well as to commercial shops, and spread fear and panic among residents, without causing any casualties.”
With the latest bombardment, the number of ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi militias against Yemen’s western coast has risen to 86 since August 9, according to local sources and the National Resistance.
The Yemeni National Resistance had previously revealed that the missiles launched by the Houthis were Iranian-made Fateh-110 missiles. They targeted areas along the western coast, including the port of Mokha, described as the country’s second-largest vital lifeline on the Red Sea.
Houthi militia attacks on Yemen’s western coast have resulted in more than 100 people being killed or wounded, the majority of them civilians, according to medical and media reports.
