How has crime rates increased in areas under Houthi control in Yemen? Details

Over the years of war in Yemen, the pro-Iranian Houthi militias have continued their violations against the Yemeni people, especially in areas under their control.

Militia security in Hajjah province said more than 2,700 crimes were recorded in areas under their control in Hajjah province, where 2,748 criminal crimes were recorded in 1443, a date the militia adopted as its official date of dealing.

The statistics also include 48 murders, including the murder of a father of his son, 191 crimes of attempted murder, injury, and permanent disability, 982 crimes of assault, 247 crimes of theft, ranging from the theft of houses, motorcycles, cars, shops, and various thefts, in addition to 32 robberies, 27 crimes of theft of property by force, 29 crimes of fraud, and 30 crimes of treason. The statistics did not include any evidence of Houthi’s involvement in violations that occurred in the province in the wholesale and in the public domain, and in the thousands of citizens’ lives and freedoms.

Houthi security agencies in Sanaa reported 1,355 crimes in just one week in Houthi-controlled provinces, including from August 8th to 15th alone. Twenty-three murders and 120 attempted murders were recorded, in addition to 100 cases of theft of homes and shops, as well as robberies on streets and public transportation.

This is all with the spread of multinational gangs in Houthi areas, which are active in promoting and selling drugs after smuggling. About 1.5 tons of hashish and 100,369 narcotic pills were seized in Houthi-controlled governorates recently.

Last April witnessed 1321 crimes; among them are 299 intentional criminal offenses in Houthi governorates, confirming the increase in crime rates. A report was issued confirming the occurrence of more than 70,000 criminal offenses during the first five years of the Houthi coup.
