Morocco offers the world a roadmap for success with women’s rights and terrorism
Morocco’s Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi has confirmed that the kingdom is making steady, but certain, progress in the field of justice, human rights and democracy.
This came in a meeting with several ambassadors of foreign countries accredited to Morocco, within the framework of the 112th diplomatic communication forum organized by the diplomatic establishment in Rabat.
The Moroccan Minister presented a simplified picture of the new criminal policy to be implemented within the new laws in the field of the protection of human rights, foremost of which is “women’s rights”.
Ouahbi said Morocco attached great importance to women’s rights and would establish a special directorate for women and protect their rights.
He also pointed to major reforms in the Family Solidarity Fund and efforts to provide children’s training in the various courts of the Kingdom and the Ministry of Justice for female employees.
He spoke about creating treatment sites for addicts and activating restricted releases, as well as about the changes he will make to the judicial record to facilitate the integration of prisoners.
There is also talk about the electronic bracelet that will be activated for non-serious crimes that involve marital violence and riots inside stadiums.
Combating terrorism
Ouahbi said the current issues at the forefront are related to the Arab and African worlds in the fight against terrorism.
Ouahbi called on all ambassadors and friendly countries to cooperate in this field and share experiences, especially since Morocco has recorded important developments and successes in this field.
Many issues need to be reconsidered, he said, especially after the 2011 Constitution, which essentially concerns freedoms at all levels, so it can be an open, courageous criminal law that respects people’s lives and privacy.
