Morocco’s Earthquake Crisis: Urgent ‘Humanitarian Gesture’ from Ronaldo

Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has opened the doors of his hotel in Marrakech to Moroccans affected by the earthquake, as reported by the Spanish newspaper ‘Marca.’

Irene Sixas, a Spanish national, told Channel 24: “We have now managed to obtain a room in Cristiano Ronaldo‘s hotel, located on the outskirts of the city. We have been waiting all night in the street, and at 7 o’clock in the morning, they told us yes, we can come in.” She added: “There are many people of different nationalities in the lobby. We are waiting to see if we can get a room, but we all slept in the street.”

More than two thousand people are confirmed dead, but the death toll from the earthquake that occurred on Friday night is expected to rise.

Those displaced due to the destruction caused by the earthquake spent Saturday night in the open, outside their homes, whether in the streets of Marrakech or under temporary shelters in towns in the Atlas Mountains region, such as the town of Moulay Ibrahim, which is among the most affected areas.
