Pentagon reveals nature of US forces targeted in Syria

The Pentagon has said a recent attack on its troops in Syria was the result of placing explosives at a facility hosting soldiers.

Earlier this month, the US-led international coalition said four US soldiers were lightly wounded by indirect fire at a base in Syria known as Green Village.

“It is now clear that the injuries were caused by improvised explosive devices deliberately placed in close proximity to US forces”, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.

Kirby and the US-led coalition did not say who was responsible for the attack.

US forces deployed to Syria during the campaign against the ISIS terrorist group in partnership with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

While Iranian-backed forces have occasionally targeted US forces in Syria with rockets, ISIS terrorists may also be responsible for placing the explosives, raising questions about how safe the base is from the threat of attack from within.
