Somalia: Candidates want that Farmaajo must present his resignation immediately


Currently, Somalia’s presidential candidates want that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo present his resignation after that his term terminates, with argument that he has no plans to monitor credible and transparent elections in the country after many sessions of unsuccessful discussions.

The 15 candidates alleged in a statement on Thursday that Farmajo had seek to prolong his term via the member states, however; his plans had failed. On February 8, Farmajo’s term terminated, but he has not yet quit the office and is facilitate the way for votes.

According to the group directed by former presidents, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the departing president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo want to interrupt the electoral procedure in the country and maybe make pressure for a an extension of his term.

In the same statement: Farmaajo has shown his real intention, namely that he does not want to conduct a free and fair election in Somalia and the only option he could stay in the service was through a political agreement with FMS and other stakeholders.

Otheriwse, they currently want to investigate about the incident in Mogadishu last Friday and also the assault made by GorGor forces at a hotel that had been reserved by a number of candidates. They allege that the incident is an act of intended murders.

Moreover, the candidates want that Farmaajo present his resignation now and appeal him former president, they also said that about the discussions, everyone must be involved in the scheduled discussions that could not start last week in Mogadishu.

Besides, the group wants that departure of the best Somali army officers, the chef of the National Intelligence Security Agency Fahad Yasin and some senior police officers because of the Mogadishu demonstrations. Farmajo was elected in the first time in 2017.
