Suicides of Prisoners and Extrajudicial Executions: Report Reveals Muslim Brotherhood’s Involvement in Taiz Region

The city of Taiz in Yemen, after being taken over by the terrorist group of the Muslim Brotherhood which disrupted its security and disturbed its tranquility, has turned into a breeding ground for horrific crimes, chaos, violence, and executions, with increasing rates of numerous and brutal crimes.

The prison administration has carried out extrajudicial executions in its own way, as confirmed by a report published by the local newspaper “Al-Amn,” highlighting governmental silence and presidential neglect.

In this context, a prisoner told “Al-Amn” that the prison administration in Taiz executes prisoners according to its own methods. He confirmed that prisoner Mohamed Saïd al-Hajj Qassem, accused of the murder of a resident from the “al-Dhaiseh” area, died inside the central prison of Taiz.

He added that, a few days ago, the prison administration placed the prisoner in a cell described as “isolated confinement,” claiming that the director of the central prison said the prisoner hanged himself in the cell last Tuesday, citing that the prisoner suffered from psychological issues.

Furthermore, a human rights activist revealed the involvement of certain members in the Taiz sector in cases of enforced disappearance of citizens. This occurred during a military rebellion against the judiciary, accompanied by clear threats related to demands for the evacuation of their homes.

Activist Sheima Ramzi explained that “members of the 22nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade in Taiz, occupying the homes of her relatives, threatened one of her relatives with enforced disappearance, with one of them saying: ‘If you don’t come back, kiss this knee to find out where your children are.’”

Activists view this threat as a direct acknowledgment of previous cases of enforced disappearance of citizens by members of the Taiz sector, indicating a casual approach to such operations and a confirmed likelihood of enforced disappearances among them. They are calling for the Attorney General to open an investigation into the soldiers’ confessions, especially since there are dozens of forcibly disappeared individuals whose fates remain unknown for years, according to “Al-Amn.”

The activist posted a video on her social media pages showing a judicial committee executing an order to evacuate a building in the Al-Shaab neighborhood in Taiz, which had been occupied by members of the 22nd Brigade of the Muslim Brotherhood.

It is worth noting that the Muslim Brotherhood party sought to prolong the war to control military and security institutions and the leadership of military brigades. The party also worked to develop and expand its military wing by creating several armed groups, which it presented as popular resistance groups under various names.
