UAE and Pakistan: Long-standing historical ties and common visions


Since the establishment of the UAE in 1971, the UAE has established strong diplomatic relations with Pakistan based on shared interests and political, social and economic ties. It has worked to strengthen bilateral diplomatic relations between the two countries since the era of the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan; May God bless him.

Thanks to a convergence of views on issues of regional and global importance, the two countries stressed the need to combat the spread of extremism and terrorism in the region and the world. trust, respect, and mutual interests. 28 cooperation agreements

The UAE and Pakistan signed more than 28 agreements and memorandums of understanding in various political, economic, trade, cultural and development fields, strengthening the relationship between the two countries and the system of joint action.

The year 2019 was the peak of qualitative development in bilateral relations between the two countries, when Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met, during his visit to Islamabad, with the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan. During the visit, they discussed the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as regional and international developments and various aspects of political, economic, investment and development relations.

Relief and humanitarian assistance

In 2011, the UAE launched a $450 million aid program to Pakistan to rebuild infrastructure damaged by devastating floods and natural disasters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bajaur and South Waziristan. The UAE’s aid to Pakistan during the past five years amounted to more than $2.4 billion in relief and development aid, confirming the strong brotherly ties and distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries

Fighting polio

Over the past eight years, the UAE has provided more than 647 million doses of polio vaccines to 119 million children, and for 2023-2026, the country allocated $53 million to continue the vaccination campaign as part of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative.
