United Nations : Houthi attack on Marib town threatens two million civilians

On Monday, the United Nations estimated that the Houthi military attack on the eastern Yemeni town of Marib threatened nearly two million civilians, according to the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Relief Coordinator emergency, Mark Lowcock.

In a series of messages on Twitter, Lowcock expressed his deep concern over the escalation of Iranian-backed Houthi militia in Marib and their potential repercussions on the humanitarian situation, noting that the attack endangers up to two millions of civilians and causes the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, with unimaginable humanitarian consequences.

The UN official went on to say : The time has come to calm down and not further compound the misery of the Yemeni people, indicating that he will present the notification to the Security Council session when he is convened on next Thursday.

On Monday, the Houthi militia, with a ballistic missile and a number of Katyusha rockets and artillery shells, targeted the Al-Zour camp for displaced people west of Marib, coinciding with intense military ground pressure.

While the bombing triggered a series of violent explosions, local sources confirmed that dozens of Yemeni families began to flee again after the fierce battles in Sarwah, the home of more than twenty thousand displaced people from the areas controlled by the terrorist Houthi militia.
